Backup Plan
Dismantling the stigma behind cultivating a career in the arts.
With having achieved her BFA in Musical Theatre, Jazlyn has seen, first-hand, the way that the arts have been shoved to the side and underfunded. Artists everywhere watch their art and passion be minimized by the very CONSUMERS - the audience - they perform for. Theatre Etiquette is at an all time low, and it’s about time that someone got up on a soap box to re-explain what theatre and the arts are all about.
Theatre is FOR the audience. Actors live out full blown emotion and bare our souls to an audience that isn’t paying attention anymore.
Theatre is FOR the artist. When you hear about any artists’ start, it usually begins with “theatre was the first place I felt like I belonged.” We are seeing our fellow artists and brothers and sisters (and others <3 ) in arms turn on each other to “gatekeep” opportunities and compare themselves to each others’ careers, instead of encourage one another.
I’m tired of feeling ashamed when I’m not “booked & blessed”. I’m tired of drowning in monotony and stagnancy at my survival job.
I’m tired of being asked, and asking myself: “What’s your backup plan?”
You could call this Jazlyn’s soap-box…
AKA, Backup Plan: Dismantling the Stigma Behind Cultivating a Career in the Arts.
